Former top Baylor 2016 signee says he's choosing Texas

Devin Duvernay is going to play football at Texas.

The former top Baylor recruit in the class of 2016 told ESPN.com he's chosen the Longhorns.

"I going to Texas," the wide receiver told the site. "I just feel like they are coming up, and feel good about Charlie Strong and his staff's plan and they are going to turn this thing around. I feel like coach Sterlin Gilbert is kind of the missing piece to help out the offense. I feel like he can add me in, and add some speed to the receiving core."

Duvernay, who signed with Baylor in February, was free to choose another school after Baylor messed up the process with his National Letter of Intent. The Bears didn't submit his paperwork properly, meaning Duvarney was essentially a free agent. A NLI has to be filed to league offices within 14 days of it being signed.

Per ESPN, Duvernay chose Texas over TCU and Oklahoma. It's a huge coup for the Longhorns, who were ninth in scoring offense and last in passing offense in the Big 12 in 2015. It's also a great recruiting get for coach Charlie Strong, who is facing a potential make-or-break year in his third season with the team after an 11-14 record in his first two years.

Duvernay, a four-star recruit, was rated the No. 8 wide receiver in the country and the No. 52 prospect in the country by Rivals. His twin brother, Donovan, also signed with Baylor in the fall. Donovan is one of seven Baylor recruits who are attempting to get out of their letters of intent because of the circumstances surrounding the program.

Acting head coach Jim Grobe previously said the school wanted signees to be patient and sounded hopeful Baylor could convince them to stay despite the absence of former coach Art Briles, who was fired in May.
